More Geek Stuff…

I work with a great manager who helps pass the day quickly and with lots of humor.  He keeps mentioning to me how he’s planning on retiring in a couple of years then the network will be “all mine.”  MUUUWWWAAAHHHAAAAAA!!!!  (yea.)

Anyway, when I’m sitting in front of the computer, adding accounts, imaging PCs and Macs, etc., things get a little lonely from time to time.  Sure, I have my iTunes and Podcasts to keep me company but there’s something out there that I really enjoy using to interact with others who work in similar-type jobs, i.e. in front of computers with glazed over eyes and, perhaps, a bit of drool coming out of the corners of their mouths.  It’s called Twitter.

TwitterYou may have seen my “latest exploits” list to the right side of our website.   That’s actually a real-time miniblog of what I’m doing at exactly the moment I posted that update.  But it’s more than that.  It allows one to interact with other “Twits” or “Twitters” (many names for those that use it) by either sending “shout-outs” to everyone or sending direct messages just to individuals.  It allows you to send shortened web links (I use TinyURL for that) as well which helps make it even more interactive.  As a member, I also get a more comprehensive page that offers a little more detail.

There are various clients that can be used with it including web-browser and software clients on all platforms.  I use a mix of Mac and Windows clients since I’m jumping between both platforms all the time.

Anyway, I encourage you to check it out, especially if you sit in front of a computer all day.  Beware, though; it has a possibility of getting a bit addictive. :)

Have a good one!
