Charrette Closing Session
Another great turnout at the Charrette.
From Kory’s Cell
Looks like another excellent turnout at the Downtown Master Plan Charrette (link courtesy of Buttermilk & Molasses; excellent coverage there!) at Plant Zero. They comprehensively covered many issues related to planning for a “new” Richmond including:
- Urbanism
- Transportation
- Revitalizing various parts of the city (duh.)
- Preserving the James River
I added a few comments of my own on the survey they handed out to all the attendees including muni-wifi, whether it’s city-sponsored/maintained or not, as well as making the city more pedestrian and bicyclist friendly by reducing or eliminating the massive number of one-way streets. I also agreed with the need to revamp the mass transit system (or lack thereof?) by perhaps bringing back the trolley system (fitting considering Richmond was the first in the country to have one!), etc.
Sure hope the city’s public servants will take it seriously. Sounded like Mayor Doug Wilder sure did. We’ll see. ![]()
