Hung Out to Dry? Not.
A lot happened yesterday. And, as usual, much of it was related to finances, or lack thereof.
#1. I have a van. I’ve talked about it before. I haven’t driven it in a month. I have no reason to. It’s a really nice van. Been to Florida a couple of times and did a great job hauling five kids and two adults around. It now sits in the parking lot in front of the new apartment I moved into. My Forester sits two spaces down from it. And I’m paying two car payments because “someone” reneged on taking the van. That being said, I like the Forester; I hate the van. However, I intend on doing something about that. Don’t worry; nothing “illegal” so to speak.
#2. I hate taxes, however, I recognize the need for them. I made the mistake of letting “someone” previously handle the finances. That “someone” knew about the multiple jobs and projects I was working on. After all, I had to pay ALL of the child support somehow, even when “someone” wasn’t working. Because some of the side jobs were contract-based, we had to handle our own taxes. I discovered that this wasn’t happening. No monies were being set aside to offset the taxes. That left ME with a pretty sizable bill with Uncle Sam. Okay, fine. I’ll pay it because I have to. However, yesterday, the state mailed me a letter saying I owe them too. Wonderful. Yippee. Needless to say, yesterday wasn’t a good day.
All this being said, I know what I need to do. Call the van’s loan company and send letters to the Fed and State and plead for payment plans. All the while paying the child support and other bills and hoping I have enough money left over to buy myself some crackers at The Dollar Store, which I did the other night. (Actually, they’re not half bad.)
This post may have a negative overtone. Yeah, I may be feeling a little negative, however, I’m also looking forward to getting all this straightened out so I can move on. My future’s actually very positive which I’ll post more about within the next day or two. I have many positive changes going on now, one particularly who’s making me smile more and more often. (She knows who she is.) That being said, it’s all good, even this stuff.
Y’all have a good one!
On a lighter note, I’ll leave you, dear reader, with this. I just can’t stop laughing! :))))

Hey man, I feel ya about the taxes thing. A whopping 199.43 is taken out of each of my paychecks for social security, Medicare, fed, and state taxes… and I get paid twice a month. Bye-bye almost $400 monthly. I still think it’s a rip that I will probably never get the Social Security that’s been taken out of my checks too. I happen to be in the worst tax bracket ever - single, no house, no kids. :-\ Meh. I need to talk to the financial advisor that I work for to see if anything can be done for the amount of taxes the gov’t rips from me.
Oh, yikes.
I can sooo relate w/ the tax predicament. I only get paid once a month so I have to be very creative in juggling due dates and all. But, I’m with ya, i.e. can’t claim dependents (wonder if I could claim my dog?) and no house and pending single too.
Have you checked out http://www.mint.com ? Awesome free budgeting site I’ve mentioned on my “geeks” page here too. Helps me figure out what all my stuff’s going.
Talking with a financial advisor may definitely be a good first step for ya.
Thx much for your comment and for dropping by!
