Geek Stuff
I use a lot of tools to help me stay productive for both my personal and professional lives. Some of these are more obvious than others.
Pownce is kind of like Twitter in a way except it offers more features such as file uploads, etc. Even though it’s probably considered for “micro blogging” the way Twitter is, I find the Pownce web interface much more feature-rich than Twitter, however, Pownce’s client leaves a lot to be desired. I hope Pownce will eventually reach the mainstream the way Twitter has. Here’s my Pownce profile.
We all know about Facebook. I use this on a more personal level although I also find that a lot of my professional colleagues use Facebook as well. Recently I’ve discovered two of my high-school friends from 20 years ago on Facebook! Puts MySpace to shame, IMHO.
Probably the most useful application in my collection, I use RTM for both personal and professional tasks. In fact, I should probably devote a blog entry just for RTM!
I highly recommend RTM to anyone who has a lot of tasks he or she deals with. The integration with Twitter, SMS texting and email makes this application top-notch. No more forgetting to rotate tapes or picking something up!
Mint is used in conjunction with my Bank of America account. This application helps me keep track of my budget and spending trends. Very helpful in that it’ll send me SMS messages when my account falls below a certain amount, when deposits have been made, etc. It updates automatically on a nightly basis and will make suggestions on how to save money on gas, etc. over time.
I use last.fm to track what I’m listening to. The cool little client runs on both my Mac and PC and automatically uploads my music. Considering I have almost 6,000 songs in my collection, this is a good way to help me organize my music as well as find others with similar musical interests if I’m ever looking for something new.
Another note is that I’ve integrated it w/ Twitter as well as my blog here (look to the right).
