Dreaming again…
Howdy all. Seems like every so often I think about what I wanna do with my life. Seems like things are changing so much for me that I really need to sit down and, maybe, come up with a list. Lately, I’ve been using Remember the Milk, an awesome online to-do application that I’ve successfully integrated with my Gmail and Google Calendar accounts. Reminds me to do such things as register for classes, do the laundry, add the bills to the bill pay account, etc. It sends me reminders via my Twitter account, email and my cell phone using SMS. Heck, it even reminds me to pick Taylor up from school during the week!
What’s my point? I guess because I work with technology, professionally, on a daily basis, I’ve never really given myself an opportunity to see what technology can do for me on a personal basis and see if it could positively enhance my life. So far I’m finding that it can, however, I certainly don’t want to get sucked into it either, i.e. relying exclusively on it.
That being said (going back to the original point of this post), I’ve been thinking more and more about doing more work with libraries, designing and maintaining their websites. I’ve been successfully maintaining the Lower Macungie Library website for a number of years now. Seriously, what would be preventing me from obtaining 10 or 15 clients and possibly living off this revenue? I make a decent chunk of monthly change from LML for their site. The hours aren’t ridiculous (granted, they’d obviously add up but I wouldn’t be bored!) and there are methods out there which would allow me pretty much do everything I’d need to do to run the site remotely. I just think it would be the coolest thing to have my little cabin eventually with a high-speed ‘Net connection and my unlimited Verizon cell phone plan, partnered with a dual head design/development workstation. Hell, I wouldn’t even need cable or satellite (in fact, I’m getting rid of the cable next month when the kids move in w/ Sha).
Something like this would work:
Will post more later!
