Bought My First Pair of Running Shoes…

Kory’s ShoesBought my first pair of “real” running shoes today at the Roadrunner Running Store in Carytown. Highly recommend them if you happen to be in the market. I had wanted to go to a professional store as I knew they’d watch me jog to monitor my gait (which they did) and make a few suggestions for me without bias (which I felt they did too).

For me, it was a toss up between a pair of Nikes (I didn’t get the exact model name) and the Adidas Supernova Classics. Other than having a cool name, they actually performed very nicely.

I’ve very much have been into working out and performing cardio. Unfortunately, I lost my spinning classes since the fitness center at the school, being as cool as it is, doesn’t offer formalized aerobics. That’s fine for me since I know I have the stamina and dedication to do it on my own. Still, I do miss that every so often.

So, that being said, I knew I’d have to do something different and I figured that running would be a cool way to lose some weight, get me outside and prevent me from getting bored by spending 30 to 45 minutes on a piece of cardio equipment.

I’ve been walk/jogging near the school (you may have read that in my Twitter column to the right), averaging about three miles a day, round trip. I’ll do the first 1.5 miles at a fast walk, turnaround and head back home for the other 1.5 miles where I’ll jog for two cross streets, fast walk for a cross street then pick up again for two more cross streets, etc. It’s a good system that seems to work for me. I’ve been very pleased that I’m actually not out of breath during the jogging phases, however, my knees and shins were killing me, hence the need for a pair of actual running shoes.

The pair of shoes I was formerly using is a pair of hand-me-down New Balance walking shoes from my father-in-law. They do the job for the walking part of the trip, however, they really let me down during the running aspect.  Again, hence the need for a pair of actual running shoes.  :)

I wasn’t too surprised at how much the shoes were.  I haven’t bought a pair of shoes since the last time I bought my hiking boots about three years ago.  So, I was due for a new pair of any kind of shoe anyway.  :)

Needless to say, I’m looking forward to my next walk/jog outing.  Maybe I’ll even begin to start running the entire way back!  We’ll see!
